Rest in Peace, Pearl.
You see? THIS is why I don’t want pets. Pearl is dead. After four days in our care. She simply stopped eating, oblivious to all our machinations to keep Pingo away from her food. Last night she got stuck against the filter, overcome with exhaustion. Not a good sign.
Now she is lying on a paper towel, her tiny body a parenthesis. I am drinking my coffee with a sense of foreboding. How will the kids react when they stumble down, the soft webs of sleep dropping from their faces?
I’m sad.
And I don’t even like fish.
I knew this was going to happen.
Poor Pearl.

So you were sitting there drinking coffee looking at the dead fish on a paper towel? How morbid. Next time just flush the thing and say it escaped like in Finding Nemo. Or ask Mary how to resurrect a fish, she apparently has the magic touch.

Come on now girl, suck it up. GREAT life lesson for those kids and it’s only a guppy!

OK, you two cold-hearted super athletes, maybe I was being a tad melodramatic. But she was orange. And feisty. Well, not that feisty actually. T-odd, I’m not the one who is morbid – Pearl was morbid. Her, not me. Mary is it too late to resurrect? She’s looking a little crispy on that paper towel.
